Reopening of Schools and PU Colleges But Regular Classes Postponed

Schools and pre-university colleges in Karnataka will reopen from September 21, as per Unlock 4.0 guidelines.Amid the rising cases of coronavirus COVID-19, the Centre issued standard operating procedures (SOPs) for a partial reopening of schools for students of Classes 9-12. However, it has made it clear that it is not mandatory for educational institutions to resume schools from September 21 (Monday). The government has asked the states to take the final call on resuming classes.

As per an earlier statement issued by the government, the students were allowed by the education department after COVID-19 cases in the state had come down. “However, as the pandemic continues to rage the state, the state government felt it was not safe to call students to colleges or schools to meet teachers,” the government said.

India is in the unlocking process and is currently in the Unlock 4.0. In the process, the Union Home Ministry has already issued Unlock 4.0 guidelines and unlocking of public transport including trains, Metro rail, buses have begun. The Unlock 4.0 guidelines also suggest school college reopening cautiously. Due to Coronavirus, school and colleges have been closed in the country since the last week of March, due to which there has been a lot of loss of students’ education and now everyone is waiting for schools to open.

Schools in the country were closed since March 2020 in view of the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak, but steps are now being taken by a few states to reopen the schools in the wake of ‘Unlock 4’ guidelines announced by the Centre. Notably, some states have decided to open schools from September 21, but only for classes 9 to 12.

Notably, schools and colleges across India have been shut since March 25 when lockdown was announced to contain the spread of coronavirus.
