HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank went live on Twitter today to address questions from students and parents regarding the steps being taken in education during the Covid-19 lockdown.

Pokhriyal went live at 1 pm on Monday from his own Twitter handle and addressed several questions apart from giving a few other key pieces of information that student, teachers and parents need to know now.

To ask anything to the HRD Minister, parents and students could post their query directly on Twitter simply by adding the hashtag #EducationMinisterGoesLive to their post

Here are the top  education updates as given by the HRD Minister in his Twitter live:

1. Students can start their new academic year with the free resources online

The HRD Minister, while answering a question from Odisha’s Ajay Mohanty who asked about how class 11 students who had just appeared for their class 10 exams can begin their studies, directed students to start the studies of their new academic year through the -e-learning resources online.

He said that government education portals such as SWAYAM, DIKSHA and E-Pathshala portals which have all the study materials for students for free.

So, even though schools are closed, students could download ebooks from the websites and check out the learning modules to start off their studies for the new year.

2. Govt working on new web portal for game-based education of little kids

In his Twitter live, Ramesh Pokhriyal answered a question by a person from Jammu and Kashmir regarding online education of little kids who wouldn’t be able to use the complex online websites that older students are using for e-learning.

The HRD Minister said that the government was trying its best to come up with a game-based curriculum for little kids from 3 to 6 years old to fully engage their curious minds.

3. HRD Minister to meet with education ministers of all states on April 28

HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal said that he will meet with the education ministers of all the states in India on April 28, which is tomorrow.

They will meet to discuss what steps can be taken to smoothen out the education process and deal with the problems arising due to the Covid-19 lockdown.

4. Board exam answer sheet evaluation might be started in lockdown itself

A very important update given by the HRD Minister in his Twitter live session was that the answer sheet evaluation of board exam papers might be started off in the lockdown itself.

Even though several board exams are pending, many are already over such as the Bihar Board Class 10 exams, but results cannot be declared because teachers are unable to check the board exam answer sheets.

5. Online classes can be done via various mediums for those without internet access

Even though digital access has improved in India, thousands still of not have internet access.

The HRD minister said that for such students, online classes were available on 32 DTH channels on TV along with Tata Sky and Dish TV.

He also said that those who don’t have TV at home should go to any neighbour’s place to study where a TV or internet is available.

Pokhriyal advised that during these tough times when people need to come together to help each other to make this happen.
